This guide is for general information and is not legal advice. Confirm your plan with your own gaming counsel before you launch.
Short answer: Choose a white-label crypto casino platform by checking five things: how it handles crypto and fiat payments, how it runs player KYC and anti-fraud, which licensing route it offers, how it reconciles wallets, and who answers support. Crypto only changes the payment rail. In the US, real-money play still needs state authorization where the player sits.
What changes when a casino accepts crypto?
Players deposit coins such as Bitcoin, Ethereum or a stablecoin. The casino needs a processor that accepts them, a ledger that credits the right balance and a way to pay out. Everything around that rail is the same as in any white-label casino: games, cashier, back office, bonuses, CRM and support.
That is why a crypto casino platform is rarely a separate product category. It is a white-label casino with a stronger payment layer and a sharper focus on identity checks. We cover the payment layer in detail in our guide to crypto and fiat payment integration for iGaming, and the build-versus-buy question in how to launch an online casino without building technology.
Federal rules also touch the crypto side. FinCEN’s guidance FIN-2013-G001 explains how Bank Secrecy Act regulations apply to persons creating, obtaining, distributing, exchanging, accepting or transmitting virtual currencies. You can read it on the FinCEN website. Your counsel and payment partners should confirm how it applies to your specific flow of funds.
What should you check before you pick a platform?
Use one scorecard for every provider you talk to. The table below lists the criteria that matter most for a crypto-friendly launch, and why each one matters.
| Criterion | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto payments | Which coins and stablecoins are accepted, whether deposits settle in crypto or fiat, and whether payouts are supported | Players expect to cash out as easily as they deposit, and a deposit-only setup creates support tickets |
| Fiat payments | Cards and local methods running next to the crypto rail | Most brands need both rails, so one cashier should handle them together |
| Player KYC and anti-fraud | Identity checks, anti-fraud rules and anti-bonus-abuse controls built into the platform | Crypto deposits do not remove the need to know who is playing. On our platform, KYC, anti-fraud and anti-bonus-abuse are run for you |
| Licensing route | Whether you launch under the provider’s license or apply for your own, and which countries that route covers | This decides your launch timeline and which players you can accept |
| Wallet ledger and reconciliation | Who owns the player balance and the daily match of settlement files | Breaks found late turn into payout disputes |
| Back office, CRM and affiliates | Bonus tools, CRM and affiliate platform integration | Crypto players are acquired through the same channels as everyone else |
| Support | Hours of coverage and who answers payment questions | Deposit and withdrawal questions arrive at any hour |
Two items deserve extra attention. First, ask for a demo of a withdrawal, not only a deposit. Second, ask who owns each job on the list. A platform that says it supports crypto may still expect you to contract the processor, build the ledger checks and staff the support desk yourself.
Does crypto change the legal rules in the United States?
No. The law looks at the wager, not at the currency used to fund the account. The federal Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act defines unlawful internet gambling as placing, receiving or knowingly transmitting a bet or wager that involves the internet at least in part, where the wager is unlawful under any applicable federal or state law in the state or tribal lands where it is initiated, received or otherwise made. The text is available through the Federal Reserve Regulatory Service.
State regulators say the same thing in plain terms. The Michigan Gaming Control Board states that gambling is generally illegal in Michigan unless it is specifically authorized by state law. The Washington State Gambling Commission says that games of chance that ask players to wager virtual currency for the potential of winning more virtual currency are likely to constitute illegal gambling.
For a real-money casino or sportsbook in the US, each state licenses operators itself, and the operator applies for that license. Accepting crypto does not change that. Our longer walkthrough is in how to launch a crypto casino in the US and the legal limits.
Which licensing route fits a crypto casino?
Providers offer different routes, so the answer depends on the provider. Some let operators launch under the provider’s license. Others expect you to hold your own. A comparison published by OmiSoft, a vendor that also sells in this space, says that no provider wins on every axis: if launching under a borrowed license matters most, sublicense providers are faster, and if you are building a brand you intend to own, grow and possibly sell, the ownership and cost columns matter more.
| Route | How it works | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Launch under the provider’s license | You operate your brand under the license your provider holds | Faster start. You depend on the provider’s license terms and coverage |
| Apply for your own license | You apply to a regulator and run compliance in your own name | More control and ownership. Longer timeline and a higher upfront workload |
| Sweepstakes framework (US) | A promotional model with its own legal structure, reviewed with counsel | Different rules from real-money play. We provide a sweepstakes-based framework supported by a legal opinion |
Pick the route that matches your timeline and the countries you want to serve, then confirm the terms in writing. We explain how to read those terms in our guide to white-label casino licensing. Operators must follow the local laws and licensing requirements of every market they target.
Which questions should you ask every provider?
- Which crypto assets are supported for deposits and for withdrawals?
- Does the platform run player KYC, anti-fraud and anti-bonus-abuse checks, or do we add them?
- Which licensing route do you offer, and which countries does it cover?
- Who reconciles settlement files against the player ledger, and how often?
- What does support cover, and at what hours?
- What do we pay: setup, subscription, revenue share? Ask for each line in writing.
- Can we see a working demo before we commit?
Treat vague answers as a signal. A provider that has run the stack can tell you who owns each job in one sentence.
How does Maincard help you launch a crypto casino?
Most founders who want a crypto casino do not want to assemble processors, KYC vendors and a support team. At Maincard, we run that work behind your brand. Our white-label platform covers design and launch, fiat and crypto payment integrations, player KYC, anti-fraud and anti-bonus-abuse, CRM and affiliate platform integration, and 24/7 customer support. Licensing is part of our offer: operators can launch under our Anjouan gaming license instead of applying for their own, and our licensing covers many countries across different regions. You bring the audience and the brand, and your team does not need to develop the technology.
On a demo, ask us to walk through a crypto deposit and a withdrawal, show the KYC flow, and explain how licensing applies to the countries you target. Start at maincard.io. For US real-money casinos and sportsbooks, you still apply for the state license yourself.
FAQ
What is the best white-label platform for a crypto casino?
It depends on your launch markets, licensing route and how much of the stack you want under one contract. Compare providers on crypto payout support, KYC, licensing terms and support hours, then ask for a live demo. The scorecard above gives you a neutral way to rank them.
Do I need my own license to launch a crypto casino?
That depends on the provider and the markets you target. Some providers let you launch under their license, and others expect you to hold your own. Confirm the route in writing and review it with your gaming counsel.
Is a crypto casino legal in the United States?
Crypto does not change which gambling rules apply. A real-money casino needs authorization in each state where players are located, and sweepstakes models follow a separate legal framework. Review your plan with counsel before launch.
How does Maincard handle crypto payments and KYC?
We run the fiat and crypto payment integrations behind your brand, along with player KYC, anti-fraud and anti-bonus-abuse checks. That means your team does not need to build or staff those functions. You still decide which markets you serve and confirm your setup with your own counsel.
How long does it take to launch a white-label crypto casino?
Timelines vary by provider, licensing route and how much customization you need. Ask each provider for its launch time in writing, together with the scope behind the number. Our guide, How Fast Can a White-Label Casino Go Live?, walks through the steps.
